Whim Interior Design from San Juan Capistrano Packs a Huge Punch While being Featured in Romantic Homes Magazine's February Issue

Nestled in old town San Juan Capistrano, California, a block away from the mission, Whim Interior Design packs a big punch for any interior design, garden or jewelry enthusiast. The main store is housed in one of oldest structures in the mission town, the Avila Adobe built in 1833. They opened up a second store, Studio Pink, that is steps away. The store owners Eric Guenther and Daviell Maldonado have created the most unmistakeably unique and memorable shopping experience while showcasing their talents for exquisite jewelry and home design.

The entrance to the store has all things garden, including statuary's, ferns, urns, iron and waterfalls. You at once feel like you are entering a villa in Spain or somewhere far from the beaches of Southern California. Although, if you need a classy beach souvenir, this is the place. Who wouldn't love to take home anything on this console?

As you enter, you realize this is going to be an experience because you feel as if you are walking into a grand home. You first enter the living room, with it's grand pillars, art, sofas, chairs, books and accessories. Then you enter the next room that is decorated in a bold green style with accessories that look like a world traveler had collected them on their travels.

You will find the most unique treasures of all the land in each nook and cranny of this huge shop. Give yourself time to roam freely, as you won't want to miss any of the treats. They have a massive decor and travel book selection to browse through at your leisure.

Eric and Daviell acquire magnificent items that are handcrafted locally and custom made for their store and clients. The massive aqua mirror behind the console is just one of the spectacular custom mirrors that can be found to fit your castle.

And, there are the linens and pillows. Oh my... (Ha ha! We watched Wizard of Oz last night). This beauty is a favorite of mine. It has the most beautiful intricate detailing in this amazing crisp white linen. It is simply divine.

Here is the perfect place to grab a fabulous book and review it in leisure before you make your final purchase. Each of the many small to medium size rooms (approx. 8) that house their spectacular collections has a different color, feeling and tone. There is something here for everyone. It is the perfect destination to buy "the gift" for the most difficult people on your gift lists.

Oh yes, speaking of gifts. Daviell is a master jewelry designer and studied many years as a journeyman and has captured all the beauty life has to offer in his magnificent collection of quality items. There truly is something here for any one at any age and any gender.

And, there is the staff. What can I say but they are top notch. They are attentive, knowledgeable and personable. Most of the staff have worked in the store for years and their dedication and passion for what they do surely shows through to their clients.

If you are ever in the Southern California area, this is a shop to see. And, if you can't make it in you can call Eric Guenther for a personal interior design consultation. He travels the world spreading his magical transformational decorating talents.

You will find quality pieces from Baker, Milling Road, EJ Victor, Hancock and Moore, Karges, IPF, Century, Anichini, Whim Estate Collection, Asmara Rugs, Martha Steward by Bernhardt, and Whim Custom Upholstery.

Whim is featured in shopkeeping on page 73 in this February issue of Romantic Homes Magazine. Cheers to them!

If you make it by, tell them who sent you.

The Garden Fairytale, Grounded in Earth and Southern Belle Holiday Tablescape Inspiration From Whim Interior Design

The whimsical "garden fairytale" holiday table created by Whim Interior Design at their home in San Juan Capistrano. Just whimical, magical and out of the world fabulous.

In contrast to the fairy table, this "grounded in nature" table is loaded with branches, wood and colors of nature. Just breathtaking.

Thirdly, the "southern belle" holiday dining table made up for Christmas in the Folie home. This was my final picture when I ran out of memory on my camera (hint to Santa!). So, the official end to my home tour of this fab-u-lous historic property of Daviell Maldonado and Eric Guenther.
Good luck with your Thanksgiving table this week. I'm going to have a Thanksgiving table scape giveaway, so get your tables and pictures ready to send in! Send to fabulousfindsandco@cox.net More to follow...
Which one of these table scapes calls to you? The garden fairyland, the grounded in earth or the southern belle holiday table?

Ah Maria~ The Classic and Charming Guest Room

Continuing this home tour of this hopefully soon to be historic home in San Juan Capistrano, California called the Maria. This is the guest bedroom and bath in this unique 1924 home of the proprietors of Whim Interior Design. This was my mom's favorite room of the two homes. It is a cheery room with lots of natural light and full of texture, color and layers of treasures. It's welcoming crisp white bedspread adjacent to stacks of old Architectural Digest magazines leads itself to a comfortable space to take the mind to another place and time. The original tiled bathroom is beyond quaint. We just wished they rented out this cottage.

I wish you a restful weekend!

The Study of A Study in the Maria House In San Juan Capistrano~The Private Home Of The Proprietors of Whim Interior Design

Continuing on our home tour of the soon to be (hopefully) historic home build in 1924 of the design duo Eric Guenther and Daviell Maldonado. This talented duo not only own one of the most memorable properties in Orange County, they also own one of the most memorable upscale furniture, home furnishings, jewelry and floral shop. Well, that's a whole lot of talent under one roof. And, their home truly shows what type of talent they possess.

An interesting lamp, grand unique mirror, books and collections of exotic items from all over the world.

The art of displaying a bookcase with layers of old books on top of books. They sure know how to do it. The old iron would lead to an interesting conversation I am sure. Maybe they found it in the home?
Well, this study makes me want to get a cup of coffee, grab one of their cashmere blankets and get comfy for a while. There are so many interesting items in this cozy study, I would love to ask the owners about many of them. But, for now... I enjoy just looking upon the beauty. A study of a study.
Does this study bring up any thoughts for you? Such as the love for the color, style or collections? Do you use old books as well? I think they bring a soul to a room. What do you think?
Thanks for stopping by. Have yourself one fabulous day!!!

Travel Back In Time To The Master Suite Of The Maria House in San Juan Capistrano The Private Residence of The Owners of Whim Interior Designs

Continuing the grand tour of the Maria and Folie homes that share the same property in San Juan Capistrano, California. This is the luxurious yet cozy master suite of Eric Guenther and Daviell Maldonado, the proprietors of Whim Interior Design. This house was built in 1924 and is in the process of becoming an historical building. You can find more information regarding this property by viewing all the posts on Whim Interior Design.

Again, all the windows are doors are from the 15th and 16th century and brought over from Europe by the previous owner and well known antique dealer, Gep Durenberger. This is the lovely view from the master suite.

One side of the double doors that lead into the suite from the poolside veranda.

Collections of beautiful blue glass vases on an exquisite crystal leaf vanity tray.

A view behind the master bed with treasured photos, books and collectibles that I am sure all have a story to tell about the homeowners travels and lives.

A few necessities that create comfort on the bedside table.

A desk, comfortable chairs, decorating books and magazines seem to be calling to us to sit down and enjoy this a while.

The gorgeous and quaint wood burning stove in the master.

The view from the master to the space with a cozy breakfast nook and bath.

Since this is the entry from the pool, this entry type of table with books, candles and collectibles sets the mood for the space.

Oh my... do I need to say anything here?

Fine luxurious lines crown the bathroom.

A table setting in the master set for the kings of the home. I can image sitting there having a cup of coffee and reading the paper in the morning. What a life they lead!!

They are so clever to use a unique and colorful table lamp to add height, lighting and ambiance.

Hand painted Swedish cabinets, floors and bath make this one memorable space.

The owner, Daviell, poolside in during the home tour in October is the buyer for their retail store and a fantastic jewelry designer. If you are looking for a unique piece of quality jewelry you should visit their store that is downtown in San Juan Capistrano. I promise it will be a feast for the eyes!!!

The other owner and partner, Eric Guenther, the interior designer of this luxurious property looking very stately during the home tour this month.
Well kids, I hope you enjoyed the master suite from this amazing property. More to follow this week. The beauty just goes on and on...
Go have yourself one fabulous day!
