A Timeless Great Gatsby with Photographer James M. Graham & Insightful Interview

An interview with amazingly talented and thought provoking James M. Graham:

When did you start taking pictures?

I was a filmmaker first. My father handed me his Kodak Brownie 8mm movie camera when I was 12. That's actually not true- I appropriated it and asked him how to use it, and then he showed me and gave it to me. I've taken still photographs probably since I was 16.

When did you know you wanted to take erotic shots of women? When did you know it was your niche?

I've been influenced by all the great filmmakers and photographers of the past. I knew it was my niche the very first time I shot a woman who was less than clothed. From my film background, I know how to direct. It's the same for stills. Create a character and immortalize them... in my style. And most importantly-make them feel comfortable.

Where do you take your shots?

Locations that are interesting to me. I've shot in every hotel in NYC. I've shot in my apartment (although I try not too) and in my model's apartments or spaces. In the park. Rooftops. Basements. On fire escapes. Wherever it feels right.

What is essential in your photo shots?

A connection with the model. And focus.

How do you choose your models?

A gut feeling. Sometimes I'm wrong, but mostly if I listen to my gut, I'm right.

Do you ever shot color or is black and white your signature?

I do color. A lot. Didn't used to, but I do now. I know how to make color be my bitch. But, yeah, B&W is my signature...

What three words describe your work?

Filmic.

Narrative-based.

Questionable.

Who is your dream model?

Kate Moss, Patti Smith, P.J. Harvey.

What drives you or inspires you?

The need to create. A legacy that is not the easy/lazy way out like having a kid. Leaving something for the world to appreciate or not. Etching my name in freshly poured concrete, except not running away when the cops show up- actually leaving something for people to ponder...

If you could have anything in the world right now, what would it be?

No one would ever hurt anyone else. Ever. For any reason.

Precious Times

Today is my son's 5th Birthday Party.

There will be lots of Balloons...

Lots of boys teasing the girls...

The boys chasing the girls and yelling

"I don't like girls"!!!

There will lots of Batman cake

from Let Them Eat Cake.

It will be oh so YUMMY.

There will be kids and friends and family...

It will be a huge celebration for our little guy.

He will be played out, exhausted and

oh so satisfied.

It will finally be over. It's all he has talked about

for three weeks.

I can't wait to see his huge smile

when he comes over to us

with a huge kiss to

thank us for his party, like he normally does.

Leaving the Mask at the Door

You know, I started this blogging deal to show the world my wares from my vintage clothing website. But, blogging has taken on a life of it's own lately. I am at the point where I don't care if a sell a stitch of clothing. It's not about me anymore. Thank God. I have been touched in on so many levels by all the amazing fierce warriors in blogland that have left their masks at the door . I had to share a few of my favs that really left a lasting impression.

Sex Ed @"Putting the Porn back into Decorno" that is actually a decorating blog. Freaking hillarious and oh so wrong on so many levels.

Seriously scandalous at the Scandalous Housewives blog "I'll have what she's having". She is on the highway to hell. With a HUGE smile. She cracks me up and says what I've been thinking sometimes. Especially about her boring Mommy parties and Cougie Water (vino).

OK, my only true unveil was my post "Angels with Wings". I feel like such a coward. But, if I was crying while I wrote it. Does that count?

Ok, it's not all fun and games. I found this amazingly open, honest and heartfelt blog by mistake called I am an addict. Ya... I can see you shaking your head. Anyway, really I was looking for a fashion blog called Because I'm Addicted. Well, I was happily surprised and taken a back by this candid blog about his addiction. His post "My Mess". But, it's dated 2005. Where is he?

There are no words to describe this. Thumping my Melon: The Last Thump.

Satisfying Saturday with Bruno Dayan's Batwoman

I am working on a BATMAN 5th birthday party for my little man next week. So, when I came across those outrageously racy photos from Bruno Dayan with the batman mask, I just had to share. Oh la la... Shout out, first found Bruno from Frou Frou Fashionista.

The first video is the making of a huge Lego Batman cake. My son adores watching this, over and over. It is safe for kids. When I told him it's a cake for 400, he said "Mom, I can eat that up." Dang, I hope he isn't too disappointed when he sees our round custom cake for 30.

Also, I was just searching for cool Batman videos with my little guy and unfortunately came across the above video that is R rated. He learned a few new words I wasn't looking for. Bad mommy. But, it is worth a peek for a little adult humor. But, if you caught Dr. Phil's recent show on poor gaming addicts you might feel sorry for Batman. Maybe batwoman can help get his mind of of gaming?

Photography mind blow for the day on a Twisted Thursday. I always take a peek at Frou Frou Fashionista's Lingerie Blog for a little daily inspiration. I'm a momma, but I'm still a woman. Right? Today I was blown away by their post that included Bruno Dayan's work. I had to go investigate myself. Racy pics to say the least. You have probably already seen his work for Chantel Thomass, Loreal, YSL, and Louis Vuitton and may not have know who was behind the camera. At least I didn't. Anyway, I just had to share.
